The Thomas Edison difference
Thomas Edison Electric's Mifflin County electricians work for us, not for a subcontractor. They live and work around the area. Each one leaves from home in a stocked TEE van. We serve Lewistown, Burnham, Yeagertown, Reedsville, Milroy, Belleville, McVeytown and Allensville. Your job gets a full day of attention rather than a rushed stop.
We are a family-owned company, licensed in Pennsylvania (PA075449), insured and rated 4.8 stars on Google. The typical Mifflin County house dates to around 1960. Most of what we do is bringing older wiring and small services up to date. We do it safely and to code.
PPL, Penelec or Valley Rural Electric, we coordinate the service disconnect and reconnect so you do not spend an afternoon on hold.
The typical Mifflin County home dates to 1960. Small services, crowded panels and ungrounded outlets are standard work for us, not surprises.
Every Mifflin County visit gets a confirmed window. If we are late, we waive the dispatch fee. Your electrician works for us, not for a subcontractor.
Whether it is a new circuit in Burnham or a full service upgrade in Reedsville, you have the price on paper before we begin.
Rewiring an older Lewistown home or adding a standby generator is a real investment. Ask us about flexible payment options.

Power in Mifflin County comes from three directions. PPL Electric Utilities serves much of the county, Penelec, the FirstEnergy company, serves other areas, and rural members belong to Valley Rural Electric Cooperative. When we replace a service or a meter base, we schedule the disconnect and reconnect with whichever of the three is yours. The power company owns the lines to your meter. From the meter in, it is ours.
Mifflin County's median build year is 1960, and the housing has the hallmarks of that era. Expect 60-amp services that were generous in their day, 100-amp panels with no open slots, and ungrounded two-prong outlets. Homes built during the later 1960s and 1970s often add aluminum branch wiring to that list. Add a heat pump, a shop in the garage or an electric range and those systems start to complain. We upgrade them so they stop.
Our crews start the day from their own homes, so a Lewistown call is a normal day for them. If you are in neighboring Huntingdon, Juniata, Snyder or Union County, we serve you too.

Around 1960, a house in Lewistown or Yeagertown typically had a 60-amp service and a fuse box. A newer build from that era might have a 100-amp breaker panel instead. That was fine for the appliances of the day. The projects we handle most in Mifflin County:
200-amp service upgrades. New panel, new meter base, coordinated with your utility. Details at circuit breaker repair and upgrades.
Fuse box replacement. Fuses still work, but they invite the wrong size fuse in the wrong slot, which is risky. A breaker panel is safer and lets us add dedicated circuits for the dryer, the well pump and the shop.
Grounding ungrounded outlets and adding GFCI protection in kitchens, baths and outdoor locations.
Aluminum wiring checks for homes built in the later 1960s and 1970s.
Safety inspections before a sale or after a scare. See electrical safety inspections.
In Pennsylvania, electrical permits fall under the state Uniform Construction Code, and the municipality issues them. In Mifflin County, most townships and boroughs contract with a third-party inspection agency instead of running their own building department. So the rules for a job in Lewistown may differ from the rules in Belleville or McVeytown. We pull the permit and schedule the inspection. You never have to chase an inspector.
Your electric utility is the other piece. Whether you are with PPL Electric Utilities, Penelec or Valley Rural Electric Cooperative, a service upgrade means a scheduled disconnect and reconnect at the meter. We set that up. Outages, storm damage to the lines and anything on the pole side of the meter belong to the utility. Everything from the meter into your home is our responsibility, and we take calls about it at any hour of the night.
Our Pennsylvania and New Jersey experts are ready to fix your electrical problems.

had a great experience updating our service to 200 amp and replacing our panel. Technician came and diagnosed quickly and set up a quick appointment for the work. Mike and Jim gave great information on what the best solution was and worked quickly to implement. Shopped around for the quote initially, and will definitely be calling back for future service.

Malcolm, AJ and Zak came to my house to rewire my panel, run a heating wire, removed my old base board heating and verified everything was safe. They did a great job! Just see the before and after of the panel.

Don came out on the same day as I called in for a faulty ceiling fan. He installed the new fan I had already purchased. Cleaned up well after the installation. Very pleasant young man. Very satisfied with all his work! Thanks!

Mifflin County Electrical FAQs
A licensed electrician who works for us arrives in a stocked TEE van during a confirmed window. We look at the panel, the wiring and the problem you called about. Then we put a written quote in your hands before any work starts. If we miss the window, we waive the dispatch fee. We are also available by phone 24/7 for emergencies.
Probably, yes. A fuse box from 1960 is usually a 60-amp service, and it cannot safely support central air, an electric range and modern electronics all at once. The bigger risk comes from oversized fuses that let wires overheat. A new breaker panel fixes both problems and we quote it in writing first.
Whichever one sends your bill: PPL Electric Utilities, Penelec or Valley Rural Electric Cooperative. If the neighbors are out too, a downed line is the utility's repair. If only your home has the problem, or only some rooms, it is likely inside, at the panel or a circuit. That is where we come in.
If your home is on a well pump, a standby generator with an automatic transfer switch means water, heat and a working freezer during an outage. We size it to your panel, handle the transfer switch and the permit, and give you a written price before ordering anything.
